Wes Craven was definitely trawling the waters of B moviedom for that one of a kind idea after The Hills Have Eyes. With the Amish gender bender Deadly Blessing, the comic book adaptation Swamp Thing and TV movie weirdness like Invitation to Hell and Summer of Fear all getting the Craven treatment before he finally broke through to the mainstream with A Nightmare on Elm Street. What did he do, you may ask, after creating the iconic Freddy Krueger? He made Deadly Friend, a kind of After School Special riff on Frankenstein and Short Circuit with a robotic Kristy Swanson, a fun 80's vibe and one, count'em one, memorable death scene. To be fair to Craven, though, it's a doozy.
